Minister Wu of the Overseas Community Affairs Council explains the New Southbound Policy during his speech.
With the Lunar New Year Holidays fast approaching, Minister Hsin-hsing Wu of the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) attended the Tamkang University's Chinese New Year Banquet for International Students on January 4, 2018, and expressed that Taiwan welcomes all overseas compatriot students with open arms. He indicated that the government is now actively promoting the "New Southbound Policy" to enhance relations with ASEAN and South Asian countries, and overseas compatriot students pursuing education in Taiwan play a key role in bridging the gap between Taiwan and these regions. He hopes that in the future, with their professional and linguistic advantages, the students can help Taiwan shine all over the world.

Minister Wu first thanked Tamkang University for hosting this spring festival activity, allowing the students an opportunity to understand the culture and virtue of remembering our ancestors, and enjoy the atmosphere of Taiwan's traditional Chinese New Year Celebration in advance. He took the opportunity of this occasion to present the Compatriot Students red envelopes and gifts including bicycles and tablets on behalf of the OCAC to convey the government’s care and concern for the students.
