The Award Ceremony for Top 10 Outstanding Young Persons kicked off in the morning of September 26, at Kaohsiung Exhibition Center. Vice President Chen Chien-Jen attended the ceremony, and praised award-winners for being the pride and joy of Taiwan, spotting the country in the international community.
OCAC noted that two of the spots in this year's award were not filled. Eight high-achieving youth Taiwanese from overseas were chosen as award winners, including Dato' Tony Peng - CEO of Malaysia-based All Cosmos Industries Sdn Bhd; Andy Chiu, chairman of World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce Junior Chapter (WTCC JC), who promoted economic and trade exchange between Taiwan and Vietnam. Award-winners spanned fields ranging from politics, public service, medicine, medical research, the legal profession, agriculture, to commerce, each with his/her own amazing story to tell.
Chen praised the winners that "because of you, the world now sees Taiwan," "you are the pride and joy of Taiwan. Your effort has helped the world recognize that Taiwan is a talent incubator."
Chen noted that president Tsai is concerned whether second-generation overseas Taiwanese could take over the mantle of their ancestors; seeing the number of award recipients present, he said that the president could now put her concerns to rest.
