On February 5th and 6th, 2018, a symposium for “The Cooperative Education Program in Vocational High Schools for Overseas Compatriot Students” hosted by the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) was successfully held at the National Taiwan Normal University (in Northern Taiwan) and the Chung Shan Industrial and Commercial School (in Southern Taiwan) respectively. Approximately 230 overseas compatriot student representatives from 12 schools participated in the event. Mr. Liang Ming Chang, Chief Secretary of OCAC, especially attended the symposium to listen to the students’ thoughts and suggestions. Apart from recommendations on improving the dormitory environment, the overseas compatriot students mostly expressed their gratitude for the guidance and care they received from school counselors and teachers, and indicated that they are satisfied with life in Taiwan. The OCAC will take into account opinions and suggestions made by the students at the symposium, as reference for establishing a more comprehensive counseling mechanism in the future, and for creating an even more friendly learning environment for all.
