To promote the government's New Southbound Policy and in keeping with the global engineering business service, the OCAC hosted its first (2017) Southeast Asia Infrastructure Development Invitation Tour between September 4 and 8, graced by 23 overseas Taiwanese entrepreneurs based in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Cambodia, to heighten their understanding of Taiwan's infrastructure service development and technologies, encourage greater business ties between the overseas Taiwanese entrepreneurs and the local infrastructure development service providers, and match-make the overseas entrepreneurs with possible business ties here in Taiwan to open up the infrastructure service market in the ASEAN community.
Other than visits to Public Construction Commission Executive Yuan, Sinotech Engineering Consultants Inc, plus tours to the Taiwan Highway Electronic Toll Collection System, the wastewater treatment facility at Hsinchu Science Park, and the Train Operations Center at Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, to get a first-hand look at Taiwan's global promotion strategies for its engineering sector, the achievements and technologies scored in public works. The delegation also traveled to four high-performance enterprises for a business tour. Meanwhile, on September 7, OCAC hosted "A seminar on international bids for infrastructure development," "An international business meet-and-greet on infrastructure services" and "General session" at Ambassador Hotel. Other than an exchange of opinion with 18 local infrastructure development services, representatives from the Office of Trade Negotiations  Executive Yuan, Public Construction Commission Executive Yuan, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, Construction and Planning Agency of the Ministry of Interior, and Overseas Credit Guarantee Fund (Taiwan) also joined the seminar in hopes of attaining partner opportunities through the event, partner participation in infrastructure development projects in ASEAN, and establish new milestones for Taiwan's infrastructure industry.
Minister Hsin-hsing Wu hosted the general session in person, who noted that this five-day program included exchange activities for both the overseas businessmen and local developers; he also thanked Public Construction Commission's director-general Wu for his personal reception of the delegation. The purpose of this event was to create a platform to match-make overseas Taiwanese businesspeople with local service providers, liaise with Taiwan's developers and government agency to vie for infrastructure development opportunities in southeast Asia. Any questions or challenges can be brought up to the OCAC for follow-up management, and OCAC would handle them accordingly with the agency in-question. OCAC organizes dozens of courses a year, and these programs have been instrumental for executing the New Southbound Policy. OCAC offers multiple pair-up platforms to facilitate trade partnerships, talent exchange, and resource-sharing to expedite business cooperation.
