President attends meeting of Taiwanese expats from around world

Kaohsiung, May 16 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) on Tuesday expressed hope that Taiwanese expatriates could play the role of a bridge between domestic enterprises and international markets and help promote Taiwan's products, culture and values.

She also said that the government has a clear blueprint for reform and that the economy is on the road to recovery, adding that it will work together with Taiwanese expatriates to let the world see Taiwan's economic and cultural strength.

She made the remarks at a meeting in Kaohsiung that brought together around 300 Taiwanese expatriates from 68 countries.

Wu Hsin-hsing (吳新興), head of the Overseas Community Affairs Council, said it was only the fifth conference of Taiwanese expatriates since 1949.

The meetings are aimed at forging overseas community solidarity and harmony, he said.
