Manila, May 7 (CNA) Taiwan's offer of visa-free entry for visitors from the Philippines might have to be postponed for a month or two after its previously scheduled June 1 implementation, a Philippines official said Friday.

Angelito Banayo, chairman and CEO of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office, said Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) told him that the visa-free treatment "might be postponed for a month or two," due to "technical problems," according to a report on local TV on Friday.

The MOFA told CNA on Sunday that it will respond to the question the following day.

On April 12, the ministry said it will grant visa-free treatment for Filipino travelers from June 1, on a year-long trial basis.

Taiwan began offering visa-free treatment for Thai and Brunei citizens from Aug. 1, 2016, also on a trial basis for a year, and this will be extended one more year to July 31, 2018.
