Taipei, May 4 (CNA) Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the world's largest contract chip maker, has been listed as the eighth biggest enterprise in Taiwan, China and Hong Kong in terms of market capitalization, according to the Business Today weekly.

In the magazine's annual rankings of the top 1,000 enterprises in Taiwan, China and Hong Kong, TSMC climbed two notches from last year on a rise in its share price.

As of April 25, TSMC's market cap was NT$4.9 trillion (US$163 billion), which put the company into the top 10 in the magazine's rankings.

A total of 67 Taiwanese companies were listed among the 1,000 enterprises, seven more than last year, but TSMC was the only one to make it into the top 10.

Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., the world's largest contract electronics maker and an assembler of iPhones and iPads for Apple Inc., was ranked 20th, up from 33rd in 2016, with NT$1.69 trillion in market cap.

Formosa Petrochemical Corp., under the corporate umbrella of conglomerate Formosa Plastics Group, was 45th, up from 51st last year, with market cap of NT$1.03 trillion.

Other Taiwanese companies named in the top 1,000 list included telecom services provider Chunghwa Telecom Co. (59th) and smartphone camera lens supplier Largan Precision Co. (77th).

There were eight Taiwanese newcomers to the list, including Shin Kong Financial Holding Co. 805th), integrated circuit designer Novatek Microelectronics Corp. (979th), and Yulon Nissan Motor Co. (999th).

Smartphone vendor HTC Corp. and bicycle brand Giant Manufacturing Co.dropped off the list this year after being ranked at 950th and 966th, respectively, in 2016.
