Taipei, May 2 (CNA) The Yunlin County government signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) Tuesday with Wonder Energy Co., a Thai-Malaysia joint venture that will invest around NT$200 billion (US$6.65 billion) in the development of wind power and photovoltaic power in the central Taiwan county.

Yunlin Magistrate Lee Chin-yung signed the MOU with Ting Chung-cheng, a representative of Wonder Energy Company's Preparatory Office.

The magistrate expressed appreciation to Ting, a Taiwanese businessman from Yunlin, for investing in his county.

Lee noted that Yunlin gets a lot of sunlight and has superior environment for wind farms, giving it great potential for developing wind and photovoltaic power.

Ting said he has been doing business overseas for more than two decades but has always hoped to return to invest in Yunlin.

In line with President Tsai Ing-wen's "New Southbound Policy," he has decided to invest in green energy in Yunlin, with the aim of contributing to the development of green energy in Taiwan and attracting more foreign investment.
