Premier lauds people-to-people exchanges with Southeast Asia
Taipei, April 15 (CNA) Premier Lin Chuan said on Saturday that promoting people-to-people exchanges with countries in Southeast Asia is an essential part of Taiwan's New Southbound Policy and will help to create mutual trust and understanding.
Given that Taiwan does not have diplomatic relations with any countries in the region, such a policy is crucial to maintaining bilateral ties, Lin said while addressing a Taipei job fair featuring Taiwanese companies with operations in Southeast Asia.
With the increasing economic power of Southeast Asia, countries such as Japan and South Korea have redoubled their efforts to promote economic exchanges with the region, he said.
Similarly, Taiwan is trying to developd amicable interactions with Southeast Asian countries through the New Southbound Policy, in which Taiwanese companies can play an important role, Lin said.
The government hopes to encourage talented individuals from Southeast Asia to study and work in Taiwan by offering a range of courses that match the needs of economic development in Taiwan and Southeast Asia, he added. (Courtesy of CNA)
