Taipei, Feb. 6 (CNA) A trial run for the main venue of the 2017 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Yunlin County's Huwei Township will be launched Wednesday ahead of its official Feb. 11 opening, according to the county government.

This year's festival will be held in two areas -- at the main venue in Huwei Feb. 11-19 and in the county's Beigang Township Feb. 7-19, the county government said.

During the festival, the county will display 3,000 lanterns at 21 theme sites in the two main areas, which between them cover more than 50 hectares.

The theme sites will include one to showcase the cultures of new immigrants from five Southeast Asian countries, as well as another one featuring traditional Taiwanese glove puppetry, the county government said.

The main lantern at the Huwei site, featuring a 23-meter phoenix, will be lit up at 7 p.m. Feb. 11, followed by lantern shows to be staged every 30 minutes until the festival concludes at 10 p.m. Feb. 19, it added.

In addition, to ensure people with disabilities as well as babies and toddlers equal access to the lantern areas, the county government has carried out an inspection of barrier-free access and facilities at the sites. (Courtesy of CNA)
