Taipei, Jan. 16 (CNA) As part of the upcoming 2017 Taiwan Lantern Festival, a special press event held at Yunlin County Government on Monday announced a lantern pavilion dedicated to showcasing Vietnamese, Thai, Cambodian, Indonesian and Philippine cultures.

At the press conference, attended by new immigrants and officials from the National Immigration Agency, Yunlin County Magistrate Lee Chin-yung said the pavilion, located in the Huwei lantern zone, will introduce and display lanterns based on the cultures of new immigrants' countries of origin.

Lee added that as Taiwan favors stationary lanterns, the display of traditional floating water lanterns from Southeast Asia will be particularly appealing to local visitors and better enable them to appreciate the cultural significance behind them.

The Taiwan Lantern Festival in Yunlin, which will feature more than 3,000 lanterns, will be held from Feb. 11-19 at a venue spread over 50 hectares in the southern Taiwan county.

For the first time in the annual event's 28-year history, there will be a special pavilion dedicated to lanterns from Southeast Asia.(Courtesy of CNA)
