Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) Minister Wu Hsin-hsing attended the joint graduation ceremony for the 34th Overseas Youth Vocational Training School (OYVTS) central and southern region on December 16. He expressed the hope that the graduating trainees build a bright future regardless of whether they return to their place of residence overseas and bring their competency into full play or stay in Taiwan for further study.
Wu stated that overseas Chinese student policy is one of the most important achievements of the OCAC in the past 60 years, since it has nurtured 120,000 alumni who have studied in Taiwan. The OCAC will commit more resources to nourishing the young generation of the overseas Chinese community and, in the future, the OYVTS and 3+4 Vocational Education Program for Overseas Compatriot Students will increase the number of students enrolled and partner schools. The aim is to bring more overseas compatriots to Taiwan to study while, at the same time, increasing two-way exchange with the overseas community and overseas Chinese students to facilitate the implementation of the New Southbound Policy.
The graduation ceremony was held at Providence University and was attended by over 700 students from 12 universities. Representative of the graduating students thanked the OCAC for providing financial assistance.
