Taipei, Dec. 18 (CNA) Vice President Chen Chien-jen praised members of Taiwan's Peace Corps on Sunday for their admirable courage and voluntary service overseas.

At a reception organized by the Youth Development Administration under the Ministry of Education, 15 groups of youth volunteers each shared their unique experiences helping leprosy victims at a remote rural village in China.

"Youth volunteers gain a lot from their experiences as they learn, grow, and mature. The Overseas Peace Corps program is dedicated to organizing, inspiring, and empowering teens to serve society in meaningful ways while promoting friendship and responsibility," Chen said.

The vice president also explained how his daughter spent her first 10 years volunteering overseas after graduating from college in the United States.

"Action speaks louder than words. I encourage the young people of Taiwan to reach out through the Youth Overseas Peace Corps and contribute their efforts to helping those in need," he said. (Courtesy of CNA)
