Singapore, Dec. 13 (CNA) Taiwan's new representative to Singapore Francis Liang arrived in the Southeast Asian city state Tuesday to take up his post, vowing to boost bilateral relations during his tenure.

Speaking at Changi Airport, Liang -- a former chairman of the government-funded Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) -- said that Taiwan and Singapore can learn from each other in areas such as trade, investment, tourism and culture.

His previous posts have included deputy economics minister and deputy head of the Bureau of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Liang, 65, noted that he took part in negotiations between Taiwan and Singapore on signing an economic cooperation agreement from 2011-2013, while he was serving as deputy economics minister.

He said he learned a lot from Singapore during the negotiations.

During his tenure as deputy minister, he also participated in negotiations on an economic cooperation pact with New Zealand.

Liang, who took over as TAITRA chairman in 2014, was appointed as Taiwan's top envoy to Singapore to fill the post left vacant by Antonio Chiang.
