Taipei, Sept. 29 (CNA) The German Institute Taipei said Thursday it will observe Germany's Unity Day on Oct. 6, an occassion in which over 500 Taiwanese and foreign guests will also celebrate the bilateral ties between Taiwan and Germany.

Celebrations this year will feature the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen as a partner in the event, the institute said, adding that Martin Gunthner, Senator for Economic Affairs, Labour and Harbours, and his business delegation from Bremen, a municipality in northwestern Germany, will attend the event.

"The celebration is not only in the memory of the gift of German unification 26 years ago, but shall also foster German-Taiwanese relations as well as Bremen-Taiwanese contacts in particular," said Martin Eberts, director-general of the institute.

On Oct. 3, 1989, after a peaceful revolution, the people of East Germany succeeded in shaking off a communist dictatorship and embarked on a democratic path, leading to the eventual German reunification a year later. (Courtesy of CNA)
